Student Labor

Every Wednesday afternoon on our campus, the students are required to clean their classrooms and dorm rooms.  As far as I can tell, this mostly involves wiping down the board and rubbing at the windows with small bits of dry tissue (which might explain why the classroom never actually seems to get any cleaner).

Students also have duties like raking, transporting desks and chairs, and submitting to a once-a-semester work week where their jobs range from toilet duty to walking around campus with red "Security" armbands.

Here are a few recent pictures I snapped when my students were furiously preparing for the arrival of dignitaries in honor of our department's 50th anniversary celebration.
